Compassion in Little Hands: Nurturing Animal Lovers from Childhood

When we were children,

We all either swayed to or were charmed by the old classic,

“Nanhe munne bachche teri mutthi mein kya hai

Mutthi mein hai takdeer hamaari.”
("Little children, what is in your tiny fist? In our fist lies our destiny.")

But at the age of eight,

did we ever pause to wonder,

Is it only my fate that I can shape?

Could I change the destiny of the cow nibbling at plastic?

By giving her my lunchbox leftovers?

Could I comfort skinny, tired Tommy,

who barks at the speeding bikes,

by sharing the milk I usually pour on the plants,

telling my mother, “I drank it all”?

Could I ease the hunger of the mischievous monkey?

Who steals my shiny new clothes,

by offering him a banana?

No, we didn’t wonder.

But someone did.

And every morning, at the first blush of dawn,

they walk the lanes of Braj,

feeding cows, monkeys, dogs,

and any other hungry soul they find.

They are the foot soldiers of Braj Animal Care,

adults who change lives through small, steady acts.

They dream of little hands that do more than earn bread and butter for their families,

hands that share food and care with every creature nearby,

hands that move with kindness.

And so, with the launch of this initiative,

They have begun reaching out to the children of Vrindavan,

Weaving the principle of Bachpan Se Seva into young hearts.

They have sown the first seeds.

One day, those same little hands will feed the hungry,

heal the injured,

and carry compassion wherever they go.
