An Awakening at Durgotsav

An Awakening at Durgotsav

On 27th September 2025, the air of GK-2, Delhi, echoed with Ulu Dhwani, welcoming Maa Durga after her victory over Mahishasura.

As I joined the celebration, a thought crossed my mind,

Maa has defeated evil, but what have I done for the community she has blessed me with?

For years, Durgotsav was all about me, dressing in Laal-Par Saree, dancing with the dhunuchi, enjoying Sondesh with my family, clicking pictures.

This year was different.

This time, I had the chance to volunteer at the stall of Braj Animal Care and The Little Umbrella Foundation.

Braj Animal Care serves the voiceless animals of Vrindavan,

while The Little Umbrella Foundation empowers underprivileged children through education.

Their work touched my heart.

I realised Durgotsav isn’t just about Maa’s victory over evil,

but about her call for us to awaken compassion within ourselves, to care, to share, and to be a voice for those unheard.
