STREET ANIMAL CARE
Braj Animal Care supports street animals in Vrindavan, India, providing over 1,900 meals and medical care monthly to around 170 animals. We aim to open a shelter for sick and handicapped animals within the year. Discover more about us!
Our Activities
Our daily feedings include milk, fruits and chickpeas to Braj animals such as dogs and monkeys.
We host special feedings on request and we regularly welcome volunteers to join us in our feeding programmes. Let us know if you want to get involved. We would love to hear from you!
Service Areas
For daily feedings, we primarily cover the Parikrama Marg area in and around Vrindavan.
Medical Programme
We have dedicated veterinary staff who are providing medical treatment and medical supplies for the animals of Braj. We also follow up cases as required.
Animal Foster Programme
We network with residents and volunteers within Vrindavan to place sick and injured animals with a foster family until they recover.
We are in the process of leasing land where we can keep and rehab injured animals to recover.
Our Mission
Build a fully-equipped veterinary medical facility in Vrindavan
Expand our daily feeding route
Grow our mobile medical infrastructure
Alleviate the struggles of street animals, promote their well-being, and foster a community of empathy through our educational programmes
BACHPAN se seva
Planting the Seeds of Compassion Early
Children at Braj Animal Care experienced seva firsthand—feeding street animals, learning compassion, and understanding responsible care. Through interactive activities and expert guidance, they connected kindness with action.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030, this initiative nurtures empathy from a young age.
Seva learned early becomes a value for life. 🐾
Little Helpers, Big Hearts – A Day of Love, Learning & Legacy
This Radhashtami, we returned to a very special corner of Braj — the place where Rainbow and her furry friends roam freely, and where a new generation of compassionate caretakers is already blooming.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear: these children aren't just growing up around animals — they're growing up with seva in their hearts.
Bachpan Se Seva — Second Session at Bhakta Bandhav Gurukulam, Vrindavan
The second session of our Bachpan Se Seva initiative was held at Bhakta Bandhav Gurukulam in Vrindavan, founded by Yashoda Gopi Devi Dasi. With her kind support, Braj Animal Care was invited to lead the engaging event on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, to promote compassion for animals among young minds.

Where the Mind Is Without Fear
Rabindranath Tagore imagined a nation
“Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high,
where the world has not been broken into fragments by narrow domestic walls.”
But in the land of Braj, the minds of the four-legged Brajwasis are not without fear.
Their days are shaped by danger and neglect.
They are run over by speeding vehicles on streets that offer them no refuge.
They are left uncared for during the floods of the Yamuna, struggling alone against rising waters.
They are injured by electrocution, scarred by dog fights, and forgotten once the crisis passes.
Walking the Lanes Together
On my first morning in Vrindavan, I joined a small group of Braj Animal Care volunteers for the stray-dog feeding seva. Carrying a canister of milk, we walked through the familiar lanes where the dogs seemed almost to be waiting for us. Some sat patiently at their usual spots, while others appeared suddenly, emerging from corners as if drawn by instinct. I was hesitant at first, unsure how close to get, but the quiet energy of the volunteers and the gentle presence of the dogs drew me in.
