Bachpan Se Seva: When Compassion Becomes Action

The Bachpan Se Seva initiative recently conducted a workshop at Satyam School of Journalism & Mass Communicationin Noida, engaging around seventy students along with their professors and teachers in a conversation about compassion, coexistence, and responsibility towards animals.

The idea behind the workshop was simple: when you understand your audience first, teaching becomes a meaningful discourse rather than a lecture. Creativity brings the mind into a space where it can create, and when young people are invited to participate, the room comes alive.

To emotionally connect the students to the cause, we began with short storytelling reels and a “day in the life” glimpse of the work done by Braj Animal Care in Vrindavan. Through these visuals, students could see the everyday realities of feeding street animals, responding to rescue calls, and providing mobile medical treatment for injured and sick animals.

Instead of approaching the subject academically, the session focused on feelings, lived realities, and reflection. From there, the conversation moved towards coexistence—understanding how humans and animals can share spaces rather than seeing animals as a problem to eliminate.

The room quickly became engaged and responsive. At one moment, when a reel showed a familiar street dog, a speaker pointed excitedly and said, “You can see Dogesh Bhai there.” Dogesh Bhai instantly became the star of the room.

Students also shared thoughtful reflections. One spoke about the cultural connection between animals and Braj, explaining that the land is associated with compassion because Lord Krishn loved cows. Another observed that street animals often survive through resilience—they do not always wait to be fed, but search for food themselves.

A creative activity invited students to colour and reflect on scenes inspired by real-life situations faced in animal welfare work. The exercise sparked discussions about how street animals are often misunderstood and how education can shape kinder attitudes. In one light-hearted moment, a student describing her activity sheet smiled and said, “It’s very calm and sweet… like me.”

Moments like these showed how powerful engagement becomes when people feel heard. When young individuals are invited into the conversation rather than simply instructed, the outcome becomes enriching and empowering for everyone involved.

Bachpan Se Seva seeks to nurture compassion through action. The workshop concluded with an invitation for students to contribute their skills and creativity to support animal welfare initiatives—and to visit Vrindavan to experience seva with Braj Animal Care firsthand.

Because when empathy awakens, the voice for the voiceless can truly roar.
